The probate judge of each county is required to keep a general reverse index to all real estate conveyances recorded in his county (see Ala. Code, 12-13-43 [1975]). The general reverse index is organized by the name of the person to whom the instrument is made and provides the date of recording, character of the instrument, and location of the recorded instrument. This record began in 1907 and continues to the present.
